I’ve been “unplugged” for a couple of weeks, for various reasons, one of which was to travel with family on a little vacation out of state. Our intent was to relax and unwind. We were fortunate to visit some historic sites and see beautiful scenery. We interacted with others at most of our destinations. We also enjoyed some downtime (not enough) at the beach.
While we enjoyed ourselves immensely, we were quite grateful to head home. As we drove into Arkansas and got closer to home, the scenery became lusher and greener. When we stopped for fuel, for the vehicle and our bellies, our interactions with strangers were more positive compared to those at our vacation destination. As we got deeper into the Ozark Mountains, the roads got curvy and hilly. The fact that we had to drive at a slower pace seemed to be a good metaphor for a comparison between life in the city versus life in the country. And although we were “relaxed and recharged”, we still felt anxiety and stress melt away the closer we got to home. When we finally hit the dirt road that leads to Mooskull, our hearts filled with joy and each of us stated how wonderful it was to be home.
